Canalys: global smartphone shipments fell 11% in the first quarter
Global smartphone shipments fell 11 per cent year-on-year in the first quarter amid adverse global economic conditions and seasonal sluggish demand, according to a research report released by Canalys, a research agency. Among them, Samsung led the way with a market share of 24%, up 2 percentage points year-on-year, mainly benefiting from the upgrading of its product portfolio this year. In second place, AAPL.US 's market share rose 3 percentage points year-on-year to 18%, benefiting from growing demand for the iPhone 13 series. Xiaomi (01810.HK) remained third in shipments, benefiting from the performance of the Redmi Note series, with its market share falling 1 percentage point year-on-year to 13%. OPPO ranks fourth with 10 per cent, while vivo ranks fifth with 8 per cent. Nicole Peng, vice president of mobile business at Canalys, said that under the recent situation in Russia and Ukraine, the closure of cities in the mainland and the threat of inflation, suppliers are facing serious uncertainty. The good news is that parts shortages may improve faster than expected, helping to ease cost pressures.
