美國財政部長耶倫:降低通脹的關鍵是控制疫情
美國財政部長珍妮特·耶倫(Janet Yellen)表示,控制美國的新冠疫情是緩解通脹的關鍵。
她表示:“如果我們想降低通脹,我認爲繼續在抗擊疫情方面取得進展是我們能做的最重要的事情。”
耶倫和白宮經濟顧問Brian Deese在節目中頻頻亮相,面對大衆對反覆出現的通脹問題的質疑。隨着美國總統拜登的民調數據下滑,以及民主黨人對其經濟議程的爭論,他面臨的政治風險越來越大。
根據華盛頓郵報和美國廣播公司的最新民調,拜登的總體支持率跌至41%,而6月和9月的支持率分別爲50%和44%。報告顯示,約有一半的美國人以及政治獨立人士將通脹加速歸咎於拜登。
耶倫重申,她預計通脹將在2022年下半年下降。
耶倫稱:“當勞動力供應正常化,需求模式正常化時,我預計,如果我們成功應對疫情,明年下半年某個時候,預計價格將回到正常水平。”
不斷上升的通脹也使拜登爭取通過一項1.75萬億美元的法案變得複雜,該法案旨在爲兒童保育和醫療保健等社會福利的長期投資提供資金,同時擴大稅收。西弗吉尼亞州民主黨參議員喬·曼欽(Joe Manchin)對該法案的支持已有所動搖,他表示擔心該措施會加劇物價上漲。
白宮國家經濟委員會主任Deese認爲,降低兒童保育、醫療保健和住房成本將會產生相反的影響。
Deese在節目中表示:“所有這些措施都能降低美國家庭的成本。”
他表示,額外支出不會加劇通脹,因爲這些支出將通過對企業和高收入家庭增稅的方式全額支付。Deese稱,政府有信心這項法案本週會在投票通過,然後提交到參議院。
他拒絕透露拜登是否會動用戰略石油儲備來幫助降低汽油價格。
Deese表示:“我們正在非常仔細地監控局勢。”
拜登最近幾天暗示,他將採取行動控制汽油價格。目前,美國汽油價格處於七年來的最高水平,極大地推高了消費者價格的上漲。
