作為建築建材系統服務商及中國高鐵防水模式開創者，東方雨虹在創業初期便自覺肩負起為全球高速鐵路構築防水屏障的重任。
不僅組建專項鐵路橋面防水技術攻關團隊，解決技術瓶頸與應用難題，更自2005年起，主動聯合設計院、科研院所，共同探索高鐵領域防水技術新方向與工程應用需求，積極參與、推動高鐵防水領域國家標準的貫徹與制定工作。

為充分驗證產品性能，東方雨虹以先進防水材料全國重點實驗室、國家級企業技術中心、博士後科研工作站，北美研發中心等為基礎核心的國家級創新平台為依託，緊密結合應用痛點、嚴苛環境特性和標準要求，創新研發出系列針對鐵路橋涵的專用材料及配套系統化服務，為國際國內等重點高鐵防水項目高質量建設提供堅實支撐。

為提高施工質量，加快施工效率，東方雨虹以產業基礎、科創平台、資源優勢及實踐探索經驗為支撐，持續迭代、升級、精進具備自主知識產權的機械化施工智能裝備，研製推出國內首款機械卷材展鋪機——熱熔改性瀝青卷材自動攤鋪車，率先在高鐵領域推廣防水機械化、標準化施工。
隨着該設備在眾多高鐵項目中成功實現全自動機械化作業，鐵路橋樑防水建設正逐步邁向現代化的新徵程。

為表彰在材料科學領域取得良好效果的研發應用及作出突出貢獻的科技工作者，促進科技人才成長，2022年，東方雨虹攜手詹天佑科學技術發展基金會設立"詹天佑鐵道科學技術獎東方雨虹材料專項獎"。
該獎項的設立不僅是對詹天佑鐵道科學技術獎的有益補充，更進一步激發廣大科技工作者的積極性和創造性，促進材料科學創新研究與成果轉化，為材料科學事業高質量發展提供科技支撐。
