Non-cash rewards
In most cases, cash prizes are one of the ways countries reward elite athletes. In addition to cash rewards, some countries and regions will also give other non-cash rewards to Olympic medalists.
United States: In addition to paying bonuses, the U.S. Olympic Committee will also provide broader subsidies and benefits (such as health insurance) to Olympians.
Denmark: Denmark has made the Olympic gold medal bounty a tax-free bonus – after all, it is one of the countries with the highest tax rates in the world.
Poland: Poland offers a range of in-kind rewards in addition to bounties. Each medalist at the Paris Olympics will receive a painting by a "talented and respected" Polish artist, an investment-grade diamond and a hotel holiday voucher for two. In addition, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Poland's participation in the Olympic Games, the individual gold medal winner will receive a two-bedroom apartment in downtown Warsaw, and the first place in the group event will receive a one-bedroom apartment.
Malaysia and Bulgaria will provide gold medalists with lifetime subsidies of more than US$1,000 (approximately HK$8,000) per month. Chile, Kosovo and Lithuania also have similar benefits until the next Olympics.
