In the early morning of February 24 local time, Russian President Vladimir Putin made another speech to the nation, announcing a "special military operation" in the Donbass region of eastern Ukraine, saying that the occupation of Ukraine was not part of Russia's plan.
According to RIA Novosti on the 24th, Putin said he had decided to carry out a "special military operation" in Donbass. Russia will strive to demilitarize Ukraine and will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons, but it does not intend to occupy Ukraine.
Putin said major NATO countries supported "neo-Nazis in Ukraine". He believes that his decision can win the support of the Russian people.
The Russian president also shouted to the Ukrainian soldiers that you have taken an oath to the people, not the government. I appeal to you to lay down your weapons and go home immediately. He said that all responsibility for the bloodshed will depend on "the conscience of the Ukrainian regime."
Putin stressed that Russia respects and will continue to respect the sovereignty of the CIS countries, as evidenced by the recent withdrawal of troops from Kazakhstan.
