香港网球公开赛连续两年取消
香港网球总会今日(24日)宣布,取消2020年「保诚香港网球公开赛」,继去年因社会事件延期後,连续两年未能如期上演这项年度国际大赛。这项WTA(国际女子网球协会)认可的女网国际赛事自2014年起在香港举办,原定於10月12至18日在维园网球场举行。
总会声明指,赛事的球员、观众、嘉宾、合作夥伴、工作人员、义工与普罗大众的健康及安全是首要考虑,这项艰难的决定是经过多番与WTA及持份者探讨後,再与多年来的冠名赞助商及香港政府商议後共同作出的无奈选择。声明内同时承诺赛事将於2021年回归。
