谷歌拟设立连接美国、英国及西班牙新海底光纤电缆
谷歌(Google)周二(28日)公布,计划设立连接美国、英国及西班牙的新海底光纤电缆,以改善服务。电缆以美国电脑算试先驱Grace Hopper命名,谷歌称,将为网络提供更佳韧性,支持谷歌消费者及企业产品。
谷歌全球网络副总裁Bikash Koley称,电缆落成後,将成为2003年以来首条连接英美两国的新光纤电缆,能够增加数据传输运力及支持Meet、Gmail及Google Cloud等服务;并大幅提升连接欧美的互联网基建。
连接英美两国的电缆长度达6,250公里,连接美国与西班牙更达6,300公里。谷歌今年较早时间与海底电缆供应商SubCom签约,料项目2022年完成。谷歌未有披露电缆所涉具体成本。
