How to Open a U.S. Stock Short Selling Account?

To enable short selling, you must first upgrade your Cash Account to a Margin (Financing) Account:

  • Upgrade Requirements: Your employment status must be employed or self-employed (retired, student, homemaker, or unemployed applicants are not accepted). Freelancers must provide proof of assets of HKD 100,000 or above.
  • Upgrade Steps: Open the App and tap “Trade” → enter the Hong Kong Stocks or U.S. Stocks Cash Account page → tap “Net Assets” → tap “Open Margin Account” in the top right corner to submit your application.
  • Trading Method: After the account is enabled, go to the target stock page and select “Trade” → “Short Selling”. The system will automatically calculate the available short-selling quantity.
