香港網球公開賽連續兩年取消
香港網球總會今日(24日)宣布,取消2020年「保誠香港網球公開賽」,繼去年因社會事件延期後,連續兩年未能如期上演這項年度國際大賽。這項WTA(國際女子網球協會)認可的女網國際賽事自2014年起在香港舉辦,原定於10月12至18日在維園網球場舉行。
總會聲明指,賽事的球員、觀眾、嘉賓、合作夥伴、工作人員、義工與普羅大眾的健康及安全是首要考慮,這項艱難的決定是經過多番與WTA及持份者探討後,再與多年來的冠名贊助商及香港政府商議後共同作出的無奈選擇。聲明內同時承諾賽事將於2021年回歸。
